So... To happenings.
OK so I know this page has lain doggo for a while
and an update is required, well here it comes, as
the song says.
Those of
you who are regular visitors to our site will have
seen a large number of new pages and a slow but
perceptible increase in the models and components
offered. Some of the things we worked on over the
last 12 months have been a bit of a challenge to the
old grey matter, but at last, most of the "i"'s and
"t"'s have been dotted and crossed.
New to
the fold are two Bass Bins the Bass-Mate and
Bass-Man. These both use 10" Peerless drivers,
Bass-Mate being a closed box design whilst Bass-Man
resides in a reflex enclosure. The larger of the
two, Bass-Mate employs a dual driver format
configured in an Isobaric arrangement. So you're not
sure what an Isobaric arrangement is eh? Well, the
bottom line is this, you get more huff and puff in a
cabinet of only half the volume of using two drivers
separately. If you're lucky with the design you can
sometimes squeeze an extra half octave of low notes
out of the system too. The downside, there always is
one, you've got to dig deeper for funds.
The two
models both use normal cabinet construction
techniques and are configured to employ electronic
filters to restrict / shut-down the higher
frequencies.
The amplifier and filters are combined into a single component panel which is hermetically sealed, (well it's airtight anyway) into the rear of the cabinet. The smaller of the two, Bass-Mate, drones down to around 35Hz, whilst its bigger brother, the Bass-Man around town, mumbles on down to around 23Hz. Just the thing to annoy the cat or the neighbours or indeed both at once.
MTM D'Appolito Mini TL.
On a smaller scale, two other designs hit the pages
during the last year, a kit MTM arrangement using
Seas 41/2" Mid Bass units and tweeters and a custom
built miniature cabinet of some 31/2L again using
Seas components. This particular design has superb
presentation for its size and is augmented /
supported by its own colour matched stands. Note
this is not available as a kit.
Flipping
back to the MTM. Well what's an MTM?? This is a
driver arrangement, first pioneered by Messrs
J. D'Appolito, whereby the tweeter struts its stuff
between two mid-bass drive units, thereby reducing /
equalising polar shifts, no, not polar bears.
By
necessity for optimum driver matching, the mid-bass
units are often quite small and so need reasonable
cone excursion to produce a realistic bottom end.
The MTM
is available as a full kit and is augmented by a
fully comprehensive pictorial assembly manual. Also
included in the manual are a full set of mechanical
drawings, so if you want to hack wood, we give you
the info. If you have difficulties we're on the
phone or can supply wood kits as required.
Caps 'n' Things.
As for components, now available are a range of UK
manufactured, value for money Polypropylene
capacitors, initially covering the range 1u0 through
to 4u7 in 12 discrete values. All rated at 250Vdc.
Also,
hopefully following, will be a range of 5W Precision
power, Silicon coated wire wound resistors with
Ayrton - Perry windings, (well pretty low inductance
anyway, and good for HF), toleranced at 2%.
Pre stock enquiries may be made in the usual way
through our email link.
So there you have it.
Till next time, QTA Systems.
